He emphasized that yoga is a priceless gift from the sages of India.

During his speech, the Governor underscored the timeless significance of yoga and its essential role in fostering physical, mental, and spiritual wellness.

“Yoga is a priceless gift from the sages of India, crafted not only to enhance the body but also to harmonize the mind and spirit,” he communicated to the media.

The Governor recognized that while “Maharishi Patanjali is celebrated for codifying yoga, its roots can be traced back to Lord Shiva, who is revered as Adiyogi -- the original yogi.

“It is Lord Shiva who introduced yoga, dance, and meditation to humanity. He is the foundation of this sacred lineage,” he remarked.

He further added, “It is a source of immense pride for every Indian that this ancient heritage has been revitalized and acknowledged globally, owing to the insightful leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The United Nations’ recognition of June 21 as IDY has drawn worldwide focus and admiration to India's cultural heritage, with many countries now celebrating this day with fervor.”

Addressing misunderstandings, the Governor clarified that yoga is not affiliated with any particular religion but represents a holistic strategy for health and consciousness.

“Individuals worldwide have embraced yoga for physical health, and increasingly for spiritual enlightenment. Yoga transcends mere physical postures; it promotes awakening and awareness, striving to foster a conscious and responsible society,” he stated.

The Governor called on everyone to adopt yoga as a means to achieve a healthier, more balanced lifestyle and to tackle societal challenges.

“Yoga can play a pivotal role in eradicating social issues, enhancing public health, and addressing substance abuse. Himachal Pradesh is a beautiful region, and safeguarding its purity necessitates our collective awareness; yoga can be an essential instrument in that endeavor,” he concluded.

The yoga session was conducted under the supervision of Satya Prakash Pathak from the Department of Yoga of Himachal Pradesh University.

Officials from Raj Bhavan and enthusiastic yoga students actively joined in the event.
