YSRCP alleges poll rigging in Pulivendula ahead of Nov 1 ULB elections
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
YSRCP Kadapa MP YS Avinash Reddy on Friday, 30 October 2026, alleged a sweeping conspiracy by the Andhra Pradesh government to manipulate upcoming municipal elections in Pulivendula — the home town and Assembly constituency of YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in YSR Kadapa district. Polling across 100 urban local bodies in the state is scheduled for 1 November.
Key Allegations
Speaking at the YSRCP office, Avinash Reddy claimed the conspiracy involved police support, intimidation and violence, with directions allegedly flowing directly from the Chief Minister's Office and the DGP's office under the supervision of DIG Koya Praveen. He named Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders B. Tech Ravi and Adinarayana Reddy as having obstructed YSRCP nominations from the outset.
According to Avinash Reddy, police prevented candidates — including women — from filing nominations, and allegedly resorted to 37 rounds of firing, smoke bombs, tear gas and lathi-charges. He added that shops and vehicles belonging to YSRCP candidates were attacked, and that despite video evidence, police took no action against the alleged perpetrators. Instead, he claimed, YSRCP workers were booked under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code, subjected to searches and arrested.
Bogus Voting Fears
Avinash Reddy alleged that thousands of outsiders from Jammalamadugu, Kamalapuram, Proddatur and Rayachoti were being lodged in hotels and function halls with police assistance, purportedly to facilitate bogus voting and prevent genuine voters from casting their ballots. He described this as a repeat of tactics allegedly used during the previous ZPTC by-election in the region.
The MP demanded complete webcasting and live footage coverage at every polling station, stating that YSRCP had approached both the Sessions Court and the High Court seeking relief.
Development Scorecard and Poll Appeal
Recalling the contributions of late chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy and Jagan Mohan Reddy to Pulivendula — including Krishna water supply, a ₹500-crore medical college, housing for 8,000 families and a ₹25-crore cold storage facility — Avinash Reddy criticised the current coalition government for neglecting development in the constituency. He urged voters to support YSRCP chairperson candidate Prameelamma and the party's nominees in 20 wards.
YSRCP Broadens Attack to Visakhapatnam
Former minister and senior YSRCP leader Dharmana Prasada Rao, addressing the media at the party's district office in Srikakulam, called on residents of Greater Visakhapatnam to vote against the coalition parties. He accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of neglecting the city's development, diverting municipal funds and transferring valuable public land to private companies.
Dharmana alleged that ₹1,738 crore belonging to the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) had been diverted to Amaravati, even as the city grapples with drinking water shortages, deteriorating drainage and sanitation, and neglected slums. He also accused the Chief Minister of concentrating political control of Greater Visakhapatnam among his relatives and associates while sidelining influential local communities including Kapus, Yadavas and Gavaras.
With polling just days away, the accusations mark a sharp escalation in the pre-election rhetoric across Andhra Pradesh's urban local bodies, and the state's election machinery will face scrutiny over its response before 1 November.
