Adani Group to invest ₹2,500 crore in Shivpuri missile facility, South Asia's largest private ecosystem
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Adani Group on Sunday, 5 July announced a ₹2,500 crore investment over the next three years to build an integrated missile manufacturing ecosystem in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh. Described as South Asia's largest private-sector missile ecosystem, the facility will consolidate the entire defence value chain — from raw materials to mission-ready missile systems — under a single roof.
What the Shivpuri Facility Will Produce
Speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony, Adani Enterprises Director Jeet Adani called the project 'a historic first outside the public sector.' The complex is designed to manufacture medium- to long-range missile systems and will include dedicated facilities for composite propellant production as well as TNT and explosive-grade materials. The stated objective is to reduce India's dependence on defence imports by bringing critical production capabilities onshore.
'We have gathered here today for a landmark occasion — laying the foundation of South Asia's largest private-sector missile ecosystem. This facility will bring raw materials and mission-ready missiles under one roof, a historic first outside the public sector,' Jeet Adani said.
Jobs and MSME Impact
The Shivpuri project is expected to generate approximately 5,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities. It will also support the growth of more than 50 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through a specialised defence supply chain, according to Jeet Adani. This positions the facility not just as a manufacturing hub but as a catalyst for regional industrial development in Madhya Pradesh.
Part of a Broader ₹1.10 Lakh Crore MP Commitment
The missile facility is part of the Adani Group's ₹1.10 lakh crore investment commitment announced at the Global Investors Summit in Bhopal. The group's broader Madhya Pradesh portfolio spans hydro pumped storage, cement, mining, smart meters, and thermal energy — collectively expected to create 1.2 lakh jobs in the state by 2030.
Jeet Adani noted that the group has already invested over ₹4,000 crore in its Ametha and Kymor plants in Katni district. Adani Power currently supplies 1,200 MW of electricity to Madhya Pradesh, with an additional 5,600 MW under development. Wind energy projects have been commissioned in Lahori, Dhar, Ratlam, and Ujjain, while a cement plant in Ujjain is also in the pipeline.
Guna Cement Unit and District-Level Impact
Separately, Jeet Adani highlighted the recently laid foundation stone for a ₹1,060 crore cement unit in Guna, describing it as the largest single investment in the district's history. This signals that Adani Group's capital deployment in Madhya Pradesh is accelerating beyond its defence and energy verticals.
The Shivpuri announcement comes at a time when India's private defence manufacturing sector is expanding rapidly under the government's Aatmanirbhar Bharat push, with several policy reforms enabling private players to enter domains previously reserved for public-sector undertakings. Whether the Shivpuri ecosystem delivers on its ambitions will be closely watched by both the defence establishment and investors tracking India's indigenisation targets.
