New Delhi, Dec 13 (NationPress) Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced that the count of government-recognized startups has surpassed the 200,000 milestone, while also emphasizing advancements in free trade agreements (FTAs) and diplomatic engagements.

The minister shared significant updates from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry over the last 10 days via the social media platform X, showcasing progress on FTAs, bilateral partnerships, and domestic industry achievements.

“The ministry engaged in high-level talks with Maros Sefcovic, the EU's Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, to guide the FTA negotiating teams, aiming for an expedited conclusion to the agreement,” he stated.

Additionally, he met with Claudia Sanhueza, the Treasury Undersecretary from Chile’s foreign ministry, following the successful completion of the fourth round of the India-Chile CEPA negotiations.

Both parties assessed the significant advancements made during the discussions and reiterated their dedication to finalizing the agreement promptly.

The minister also held talks with Maxim Reshetnikov, Russia's Minister of Economic Development, to explore collaboration in sectors such as food and agriculture, pharmaceuticals, textiles, and automobiles.

“The total number of government-recognized startups now stands at 201,335. These startups have collectively generated over 2.1 million jobs across the nation. Furthermore, more than 48% of these recognized startups in India have at least one female director,” he remarked in his post on X.

Moreover, “Dakshina Kannada has been announced as a District Export Hub under the Districts as Export Hubs (DEH) initiative,” the minister added.

Seafood and cashew have been identified as potential export products, which are anticipated to bolster the local industry, enhance value-added activities, and widen market prospects for businesses in the area, Goyal advised.

Earlier this week, Goyal indicated that exports of Kolhapuri chappals could evolve into a $1 billion annual opportunity, particularly after the Italian luxury brand Prada announced intentions to create limited-edition Kolhapuri-inspired sandals in India.

Goyal further reaffirmed India’s commitment to a free trade agreement with the EU, emphasizing that the nation aspires for deeper industrial and economic ties with Italy in domains like R&D, technology, defense, textiles, agriculture, and food processing.
