New Delhi, Oct 27 (NationPress) Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, praised the remarkable surge in India's electronics exports, expressing optimism that it will soon rank as the second largest export category.
The minister revealed that during the first half of FY26, India's electronics exports have emerged as the third largest and fastest growing export sector.
In a social media post on platform X, he stated, "The impact of Make in India is evident! Electronics is now the third largest and fastest growing export category in the initial six months of FY26, on track to become the second largest exported item."
Government statistics indicate that electronics exports surged by 42 percent year-on-year, reaching $22.2 billion in H1FY26, with nearly half of this total attributed to Apple iPhone shipments. The sector's export ranking has significantly improved, moving from seventh in FY22 to third.
India's overall exports grew by 5.19 percent year-on-year from April to August 2025, totaling $346.1 billion, compared to $329.03 billion during the same timeframe in 2024, despite global market uncertainties.
This progress builds on a 7.1 percent rise in exports in 2024, outperforming the global average of 2.5 percent, as reported by the World Bank.
Electronic goods drove this expansion with a 40.6 percent increase, adding $5.5 billion in value compared to the same period in 2024. This success is closely tied to the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) and Make in India initiatives that have transitioned India from a net importer to a net exporter of smartphones.
Smartphone exports alone exceeded Rs 1 lakh crore in the first five months of FY26, marking a substantial 55 percent increase over the previous year, as further detailed in the article.
In September, India's smartphone exports surpassed an estimated $1.8 billion, reflecting a year-on-year growth of over 95 percent compared to the same month in the prior year.
