New Delhi, March 31 (NationPress) The National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), part of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), is set to unveil a new digital platform aimed at monitoring rabies vaccine and anti-snake venom supplies in real-time.

This innovative portal, created by NCDC's Centre for One Health with assistance from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), will undergo a pilot launch in five states: Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, and Puducherry.

The initiative will facilitate the real-time tracking of rabies vaccine stock levels, beneficiary monitoring, and ensure timely administration of all doses in the rabies post-exposure prophylaxis regimen.

“Digital innovation meets public health! The MoHFW's NCDC, along with UNDP India, is currently training master trainers to kick off the pilot for #ZooWIN — a revolutionary tech solution designed to optimize rabies vaccine and anti-snake venom supply chains, while assessing its impact across the pilot states,” stated the UNDP on the social media platform X.

Under the leadership of Director Prof. (Dr.) Ranjan Das, the NCDC recently organized a “training of trainers on Zoo-Win — a digital solution for zoonoses prevention — in collaboration with UNDP” in the national capital for the pilot regions.

In 2024, the NCDC and UNDP are also launching a dedicated helpline — 15400 — in these five states to improve access to critical information and treatment related to rabies and snake bites.

“From the #ZooWIN platform to the helpline #15400 and focused state action plans — we are taking significant steps to safeguard lives,” remarked UNDP.

The ZooWIN platform is designed to centralize data and improve cooperation among healthcare providers, municipal authorities, and veterinary services.

According to UNDP, rabies causes more than 60,000 fatalities globally each year, with India contributing nearly 36% of these deaths.

Rabies is among the most lethal of the over 200 known zoonotic diseases. Though entirely preventable, millions remain vulnerable.

Previously, UNDP collaborated with the Health Ministry to create various digital health solutions, including the Electronic Vaccine Intelligence Network (eVIN) and the Covid-19 Vaccine Intelligence Network (CoWIN). These technological advancements have played a crucial role in digitizing vaccine stock information, registrations, immunizations, and issuing digital vaccine certificates.
