New Delhi, April 5 (NationPress) India will enhance cancer care and establish a Centre of Excellence for traditional medicine in BIMSTEC nations, declared Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Summit in Bangkok, PM Modi presented a detailed 21-point action plan that outlines a forward-looking strategy for collaboration across various sectors.
“Public health stands as a crucial pillar of our collective social advancement. I am delighted to share that India will offer support for training and capacity enhancement in cancer care throughout BIMSTEC countries,” stated PM Modi.
“As part of our comprehensive health strategy, a Centre of Excellence will be created to foster research and dissemination in the field of traditional medicine,” he added.
It is important to highlight that Thailand and India share strong traditional medicine systems that have historically been interconnected. This announcement from the Prime Minister is expected to significantly enhance research and development activities in this domain.
The two nations have been collaborating to reinforce, promote, and advance academic and research alliances in traditional medicine.
Last year, the National Institute of Ayurveda in Jaipur, under the Ministry of Ayush, and the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine from the Thai Government, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to forge an academic partnership in Ayurveda and Thai traditional medicine.
As part of this academic collaboration, the Ayush scholarship program, managed by the Ministry of Ayush, is available through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).
This scholarship is intended for undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, Homoeopathy, B.Sc. in Yoga, B.A. in Yoga Shastra, Ph.D. in Yoga, and Ph.D. in Ayurveda.
Over the last five years, 175 students from BIMSTEC regions have benefited from these scholarships.
India and Thailand also boast a rich history of collaboration across various sectors, including traditional medicine.
