Indian Airlines to Launch Relief Flights from Middle East Amid Crisis
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 3 (NationPress) Indian airlines are set to launch special relief flights from the Middle East on Tuesday to aid passengers stranded due to the escalating tensions between the US-Israel and Iran conflicts.
IndiGo has arranged for 10 dedicated relief flights from Jeddah to various destinations in India on Tuesday, as reported by the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
Meanwhile, SpiceJet is planning to operate four special flights from the UAE on March 3, aimed at assisting Indian nationals who are unable to travel due to the abrupt airspace closures.
These special services will connect Fujairah with three major Indian cities – Delhi, Mumbai, and Kochi, including two flights directed towards Mumbai, to expedite the return of passengers.
In addition to these special operations, SpiceJet will resume its regular flights between Fujairah and Delhi, as well as between Fujairah and Mumbai, starting March 4, thereby improving connectivity between the UAE and India.
On Monday, approximately 357 flights were canceled; however, operations began to gradually resume by evening as stranded Indian aircraft made their way back home.
In light of the evolving situation in the Middle East, the government is in ongoing discussions with airlines, airport operators, regulatory bodies, and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to ensure safe operations, orderly service restoration, and the facilitation of affected passengers.
Indian airlines are making systematic adjustments to their flight schedules, progressively resuming long-haul and ultra-long-haul flights through alternative routes that bypass restricted airspaces. Measures for the repositioning of aircraft and crew are being implemented to restore operational stability promptly, as stated by the Civil Aviation Ministry.
Additionally, special arrangements are being established to aid the movement of stranded travelers. Airlines are increasing capacity where necessary and working closely with foreign aviation authorities and Indian missions abroad to guarantee safe and orderly passenger transit.
Foreign airlines operating between India and the Gulf region are also conducting limited operations, depending on operational capabilities and airspace factors. The government has emphasized that passenger safety is the top priority.
