Karnataka Minister for Minor Irrigation and Science and Technology Ajay Dharam Singh on Tuesday, 8 September met Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman and Department of Space Secretary V. Narayanan in Bengaluru to congratulate him on the successful GSLV-F17/EOS-05 mission. The meeting underscored Karnataka's intent to deepen its partnership with India's premier space agency as the country's next phase of space and deep-technology growth accelerates.

Minister's message to ISRO leadership

Commending the scientists, engineers, and technical teams behind the mission, Ajay Dharam Singh described the GSLV-F17/EOS-05 launch as 'another important milestone in India's scientific and technological capabilities.' In a formal letter to Narayanan, the Minister wrote: 'The successful mission is another significant milestone in India's space programme and reflects ISRO's excellence in science, technology and innovation.'

Singh noted that the capabilities of EOS-05 would strengthen Earth observation and support critical sectors including agriculture, water resources, environmental management, and disaster management — areas of direct relevance to Karnataka's development priorities.

Chief Minister Shivakumar joins in congratulations

During the visit, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar spoke to V. Narayanan over the phone and extended congratulations to the ISRO Chairman and the entire mission team. The gesture signals that the state's engagement with ISRO extends to the highest level of Karnataka's elected leadership, not merely its science and technology portfolio.

According to Minister Singh, a formal meeting between Chief Minister Shivakumar and ISRO leadership is being planned later this month to explore avenues for deeper collaboration in space science, research, SpaceTech, DeepTech, startups, and emerging technologies.

Karnataka's stake in India's space ecosystem

'Karnataka has historically been home to ISRO and India's space ecosystem. The state must continue to remain at the forefront of the country's next phase of SpaceTech and DeepTech growth,' Singh said, adding that ISRO's guidance would be 'extremely important' in that journey. The state government, he affirmed, is 'fully committed to supporting the growth of space science, research, SpaceTech, DeepTech, startups and emerging technologies in Karnataka.'

Notably, Bengaluru hosts ISRO's headquarters as well as a dense cluster of aerospace and deep-tech startups, making Karnataka a natural institutional partner as India's space sector opens further to private players under the IN-SPACe framework.

What the GSLV-F17/EOS-05 mission achieved

The GSLV-F17/EOS-05 mission successfully placed the EOS-05 Earth observation satellite into orbit, adding to India's growing constellation of remote-sensing assets. The satellite is designed to support applications in agriculture monitoring, water resource management, environmental surveillance, and disaster response — domains where reliable, high-resolution imagery can directly inform government decision-making.

The mission adds to a sequence of recent ISRO successes and reinforces the organisation's track record in operational satellite launches ahead of more ambitious deep-space programmes on the horizon.
