Seoul, May 15 (NationPress) The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of LG Electronics, Cho Joo-wan, announced on Thursday that the company is shifting its focus towards business prospects in emerging markets throughout Southeast Asia, South America, and Africa.
In a LinkedIn post, Cho remarked, "The global economy is transitioning into a new era, marked by swift technological and geopolitical transformations. In this evolution, the Global South—previously viewed as emerging—is now at the forefront of innovation and growth."
The term Global South encompasses a collection of developing and less-developed nations, primarily situated in the Southern Hemisphere, as reported by the Yonhap news agency.
These nations are gaining attention from global consumer-oriented companies, fueled by their youthful demographics and increasing purchasing power.
Referencing data from prominent institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Cho characterized the Global South as a new engine for global change—propelling economic growth, influencing supply chain adjustments, and speeding up digital and technological advancements.
"As an emerging force in consumption, production, and innovation, the Global South is a critical growth ally," he stated. "LG Electronics is dedicated to long-term cooperation through sustainable technology and tailored solutions."
His comments resonate with LG Electronics' commitment to the rapidly expanding countries of the Global South, promising to transform the region's unique challenges and opportunities into effective business strategies.
In line with this initiative, Cho recently toured LG Electronics' facilities in India and Indonesia to enhance its presence in sectors such as heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), commercial displays, and smart factory solutions.
Additionally, the company broke ground on a new home appliance plant in India last month, which will function as a regional manufacturing hub for India and surrounding markets, including the Middle East and Bangladesh.
Furthermore, LG Electronics announced last week that it will start the construction of another home appliance factory in India. With a planned investment of $600 million, this facility is expected to commence production by the end of 2026.
