During the opening session of the 11th Asia Pacific MedTech Forum (APACMed) 2025 via a video address, he underscored the significance of the MedTech sector for achieving accessible and affordable healthcare alongside fostering innovation.

“The MedTech sector is an essential pillar of health transformation in India. Its expansive scope includes diagnostics, advanced devices, digital health, and AI-based solutions—all aimed at enhancing healthcare accessibility, efficiency, and affordability for all citizens,” Nadda remarked.

He pointed out that this sector has established itself as a reliable provider of high-quality healthcare, bolstered by the government's commitment to access, innovation, and infrastructure enhancement.

Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel emphasized several significant government initiatives launched to fortify India’s MedTech and medical devices sector.

These initiatives encompass a new program for supporting component manufacturing, development of common infrastructure, effective branding, and conducting vital market and clinical studies.

“India is not only becoming a high-volume manufacturer but also a high-value player in the global MedTech market. Our next advancement will stem from collaborations; I urge all stakeholders to partner with India in co-creating solutions to benefit both our 1.4 billion citizens and the broader healthcare requirements of emerging markets,” Patel stated.

“The medical technology sector is increasingly being acknowledged as a sunrise sector,” she added.

She also highlighted the government’s investor-friendly strategies, featuring 100% FDI in medical devices, the establishment of an Export Promotion Council, and the creation of a National Medical Devices Promotion Council to enhance business operations and expand export possibilities.

Additionally, Dr. Vinod K Paul, Member (Health) at NITI Aayog, detailed the transformative steps taken by the government in recent years to stimulate innovation, research and development, affordability, and domestic manufacturing within the medical devices sector.

He identified the National Medical Devices Policy, 2023, as a pivotal advancement that lays out a thorough framework for comprehensive sectoral growth. This is further supported by the Policy on R&D and Innovation in the Pharma-MedTech sector, the establishment of Medical Devices Parks modeled on the Andhra MedTech Zone, a Productivity Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, and the initiation of the Promotion of Research and Innovation in the Pharma-MedTech Sector (PRIP), commonly referred to as the BRICS scheme.

The two-day forum, taking place from 16-17 September, gathered senior policymakers, global industry leaders, regulators, and healthcare experts from over 10 countries in the Asia Pacific region to align strategies for shaping India’s MedTech roadmap in accordance with the Prime Minister’s Healthcare Vision 2030 and Viksit Bharat 2047.
