New Delhi, Jan 15 (NationPress) India's smartphone exports are projected to reach an exceptional $30 billion in 2025, primarily fueled by the government's production-linked incentive (PLI) initiative, as per industry forecasts.
This export milestone in 2025 accounts for approximately 38 percent of the nation's smartphone exports over the last five years, according to the data.
Additionally, the figures indicate that India's smartphone exports from 2021 to 2025 amounted to nearly $79.03 billion, with 2025 marking the highest annual export total recorded. During this timeframe, shipments of Apple's iPhones contributed around 75 percent of the overall exports, valued at over $22 billion.
The smartphone export figure of over $30 billion signifies a remarkable 47 percent increase from the $20.45 billion recorded in the previous year. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that India's total electronics exports surpassed Rs 4 trillion in 2025 and are anticipated to grow further due to advancements in semiconductor manufacturing.
Vaishnaw remarked, "Electronics exports exceeded Rs 4 trillion in 2025, generating employment and enhancing foreign currency reserves. The momentum is set to continue in 2026 with the commencement of four semiconductor plants' commercial operations," he shared on social media this week.
Government statistics revealed that electronic production reached approximately Rs 11.3 lakh crore during the 2024–25 fiscal year.
For the first time since domestic production commenced in 2021, exports of Apple's iPhones from India surpassed Rs 2 lakh crore in 2025, according to industry data.
Exports from the tech giant in 2025 increased by nearly 85 percent compared to 2024. Apple currently operates five iPhone assembly plants in India, with three managed by Tata Group entities and two by Foxconn.
India has emerged as the world's second-largest mobile phone manufacturer, with over 99 percent of sold phones being Made in India, reflecting a positive shift in the manufacturing value chain.
The smartphone PLI scheme is set to conclude in March 2026, although the government is reportedly considering options for extending this support. Under revised regulations, companies can claim incentives for any five consecutive years within a six-year timeframe.
