New Delhi, March 30 (NationPress) OpenAI CEO Sam Altman on Sunday called on users to lessen their engagement with ChatGPT's newly launched image generation feature, due to its overwhelming popularity.
In a message posted on social media platform X, he expressed: "Can y'all please chill on generating images this is insane our team needs sleep (sic)".
Despite his request, numerous users remained unconvinced, with some even suggesting that he should dismiss his team.
In response to one such comment, Altman defended his team, stating they have developed one of the largest websites globally in just 2.33 years.
"No thanks. Besides working on AGI, this team is on track to create the biggest website in the world from a cold start 2.33 years ago," Altman replied.
On March 25, OpenAI launched its cutting-edge AI-driven image generator, integrated with ChatGPT's GPT-4o model.
This feature enables users to refine images iteratively while ensuring consistency across multiple edits.
Since its debut, there has been a significant spike in user involvement, with many experimenting by converting images into various artistic styles, including Studio Ghibli.
However, the rapid uptake has strained OpenAI's infrastructure. Altman noted the situation, stating: "It’s super fun seeing people love images in ChatGPT, but our GPUs are melting."
Due to copyright issues, OpenAI has also limited the generation of images in the styles of certain living artists and studios like Studio Ghibli.
To handle the high demand, OpenAI intends to implement temporary rate limits. The free version of ChatGPT will soon be capped at three image generations per day.
Altman reassured users that these restrictions are temporary and the company is focused on enhancing efficiency.
Unlike previous AI-generated art that relied on external tools like OpenAI's DALL-E, the new image generation feature is integrated directly within ChatGPT-4o.
Users can effortlessly create visuals using text prompts and even specify details such as aspect ratio, color schemes, and transparent backgrounds.
The model also has the ability to analyze and learn from uploaded images to improve its output. In a blog post, OpenAI clarified that their models have been trained on a vast array of online images and text, enabling them to grasp not only how images relate to language but also how they connect with one another.
