New Delhi, Nov 3 (NationPress) Startup founder and angel investor Udit Goenka faced an unpleasant surprise after ordering veg biryani from Behrouz Biryani through the food delivery app Swiggy. Instead of the expected vegetarian dish, he received non-vegetarian biryani.
Goenka took to the social media platform X to express his dissatisfaction and urged Swiggy to address the issue promptly.
“I ordered Veg Biryani from Behrouz, but what I got was non-veg,” Goenka posted.
He tagged Swiggy, insisting, “Please resolve this before I escalate it to consumer court.” He also included Behrouz Biryani in his post, stating, “I will be taking legal action for this.”
In response, Behrouz issued an apology on X, indicating their intention to make amends, while Swiggy had not yet replied to the post.
“Hello Udit! We never intend for our customers to have such experiences, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Please DM us your Order ID and contact number so we can resolve this issue for you. (RB),” Behrouz communicated on X.
The incident attracted considerable attention, with many users advising Goenka against ordering vegetarian dishes from a restaurant known for non-veg items.
This incident is not isolated; previously, in April, a woman criticized Swiggy for delivering non-veg food during Navratri, a significant religious festival.
In July, a UPSC teacher posted a video on X, claiming his family received a non-vegetarian soup instead of the vegetarian option they ordered from a premium restaurant via Zomato.
Last year, the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Telangana and Punjab imposed fines on Swiggy for delivering non-vegetarian meals to vegetarian patrons.
The Commission collectively fined Swiggy Rs 10,000 along with a Madhapur-based restaurant in April and imposed a penalty of Rs 50,000 on both Swiggy and Behrouz in July.
On a financial note, Swiggy reported a consolidated net loss of Rs 1,092 crore for the quarter ending September (Q2 FY26), an increase from a loss of Rs 626 crore in the same quarter last fiscal year (Q2 FY25).
This loss has impacted the company's owners, as stated in their stock exchange filing.
