New Delhi, Nov 18 (NationPress) Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal held a meeting with Norwegian Health Minister Jan Christian Vestre to enhance collaboration in the areas of healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and technology. Vestre, who serves as the Minister of Health and Care Services, is currently visiting India to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the health sector.
Goyal shared on social media platform X, "We discussed enhancing collaboration across healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and technology-driven innovations to ensure quality, affordable, and accessible healthcare for our citizens."
Previously, J P Nadda, the Minister of Health and Family Welfare, also engaged with Vestre to discuss India's focus on digital health, human resource development, maternal and child nutrition, and joint research on various diseases.
Nadda suggested the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to further enhance collaboration between the two nations in areas of health, medicine, and drug regulation.
He posted on X, "Met with Jan Christian Vestre, Health Minister of Norway, in New Delhi today. I proposed signing of MoUs to further our cooperation in health and medicine, along with drug regulation."
"We discussed India's focus on digital health, human resource development, maternal and child nutrition, and cooperative disease research. I am eager to advance our healthcare partnership and deepen our bilateral relations," he added.
Vestre previously visited India as Norway's Minister of Trade and is set to participate in the Bengaluru Tech Summit.
In addition, the Norway India Partnership Initiative (NIPI) has successfully completed three phases and is currently in its fourth phase. This initiative aims to assist India in achieving the National Health Policy and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), providing essential technical support to the Health Ministry and National Health Mission (NHM).
In October, Punya Salila Srivastava, Union Health Secretary, chaired NIPI's annual meeting with Norway's Ambassador to India, May-Elin Stener, to review and approve the NIPI Progress Report 2025 and the work plans for 2025-26 under the current phase.
NIPI aims to deliver strategic, catalytic, and innovative support to India's National Health Mission (NHM), particularly in states like Bihar, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
