Widespread UPI Disruptions: Users Experience Failed Transactions Across India

New Delhi, April 1 (NationPress) Transactions through UPI platforms were disrupted across India on Wednesday, preventing numerous users from completing their digital payments. Downdetector, an outage tracking service, noted a significant increase in complaints throughout the day, indicating a major issue affecting users nationwide.
The disruption notably impacted the State Bank of India, which received over 500 outage reports, while UCO Bank recorded approximately 40 complaints. Overall, more than 40 reports of UPI-related downtime were noted, with numbers continuing to rise as users reported problems.
This outage was widespread, with individuals from cities including New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Jaipur, and Pune experiencing failed transactions and payment errors. In the case of SBI, the complaints came from various regions, including Kolkata, Guwahati, and Chennai.
Users of UCO Bank faced issues primarily in New Delhi, Jaipur, and Kolkata. Many took to social media platform X to voice their frustrations over failed payments, with others uncertain if the problems stemmed from their banks or their personal devices.
Reports indicated that several transactions were stuck midway, while some UPI applications failed to load entirely. In response to the situation, SBI announced via social media that a scheduled maintenance activity had been extended until 12:30 PM on April 1.
The bank cautioned that services like UPI, IMPS, YONO, internet banking, NEFT, and RTGS could face interruptions during this time. Customers were encouraged to utilize alternatives such as UPI Lite, the eRupee (CBDC) app, and ATM services in the interim, while the bank expressed apologies for the inconveniences caused.
“The end timing for the scheduled maintenance activity has been pushed to 12:30 Hrs on 01.04.2026,” said the public lender. “Our services, including UPI, IMPS, YONO, Internet Banking, NEFT, and RTGS, may experience disruptions,” it added. SBI reassured customers that they could use UPI Lite, the eRupee (CBDC) App, and ATM services during this period. “We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding,” the bank concluded.
