Stay Calm: Rajasthan Police Offers Guidance on UPI Transaction Mistakes
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, March 11 (NationPress) The Cyber Crime Unit of the Rajasthan Police has released a comprehensive advisory encouraging residents to stay composed and react promptly in the event of incorrect UPI transactions.
This advisory is pertinent, given the increasing occurrences of digital payment fraud and accidental transfers in the age of Digital India.
Authorities have stated that although UPI transactions offer convenience, they also require careful attention. Errors such as entering wrong details or acting impulsively can lead to funds being sent to unintended recipients.
To assist residents in responding effectively, the Cyber Crime Unit has detailed the following actions:
Immediately Secure Digital Evidence: Capture a screenshot of the transaction and record the 12-digit UTR (Unique Transaction Reference) number, vital for tracking and recovery.
File a Dispute on the UPI App: Utilize the “Report a Problem” or “Raise a Dispute” features in payment applications (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, etc.). Timely reporting to the bank and payment provider enhances resolution chances.
Contact Your Bank Without Delay: Visit a nearby branch or reach out to customer service. Provide written information, including the recipient’s UPI ID, transaction time, amount, and UTR number. Prompt reporting, in line with RBI guidelines, aids in quicker refunds.
Utilize the NPCI Portal: If the response from the bank or app is inadequate, escalate the matter via the NPCI grievance portal or helpline at 1800-120-1740.
As directed by Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar Sharma, the advisory also highlights preventive steps. Citizens are encouraged to double-check recipient names after entering mobile numbers or scanning QR codes and to refrain from making payments under duress or at the behest of unknown callers.
Importantly, officials emphasized that UPI PINs and QR codes are unnecessary for receiving money. Any request for entering a PIN or scanning a code to receive funds should raise suspicions.
In situations of suspected cyber fraud, individuals should report incidents through the National Cyber Crime Portal or contact the Cyber Helpline at 1930. Further assistance is available through the Cyber Helpdesk at 9256001930 and 9257510100.
