Lucknow, May 11 (NationPress) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath celebrated the triumph of Operation Sindoor on Sunday, asserting that it showcased the impressive capabilities of the BrahMos missile to the global community.
This statement was made during the inauguration of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile production facility at the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor in Lucknow.
Speaking to the audience, Yogi Adityanath stated, "I extend my congratulations to the Indian Armed Forces, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on behalf of the citizens of Uttar Pradesh for the accomplishment of 'Operation Sindoor'."
He further expressed gratitude towards the Prime Minister and the Defence Minister for their "endeavors to establish Uttar Pradesh as a centre for defence manufacturing."
The newly established facility, which was developed with an investment of Rs 300 crore, is set to produce between 80 to 100 BrahMos missiles each year, significantly enhancing India's domestic defence capabilities.
Engineered by BrahMos Aerospace, a collaboration between India's DRDO and Russia's NPO Mashinostroyeniya, the supersonic cruise missile has a range of 290 to 400 kilometres and can attain speeds of up to Mach 2.8.
It can be launched from various platforms including land, sea, or air and incorporates a "fire and forget" guidance system.
Referencing the recent cross-border operation, CM Yogi remarked, "You may have witnessed the might of the BrahMos missile during Operation Sindoor. If not, just inquire with the people of Pakistan regarding the power of the BrahMos missile. PM Modi has proclaimed that any future acts of terrorism will be treated as acts of war."
Reaffirming India's resolve against terrorism, he noted, "The issue of terrorism cannot be resolved unless we eradicate it entirely. We must unite in one voice under PM Modi's guidance. Terrorism does not comprehend the language of love; it must be countered in its own terms. Through Operation Sindoor, India has sent a clear message to the world."
The facility also features an Aerospace Integration and Testing Centre, from which 100 to 150 next-generation BrahMos missiles will be produced annually.
These enhanced missiles, anticipated to be operational within a year, are lighter at 1,290 kilograms compared to the current 2,900 kilograms and will offer an extended strike range of over 300 kilometres. This lighter design will allow fighter jets like the Sukhoi to carry up to three missiles instead of just one.
The BrahMos unit is situated within the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor, which comprises six nodes: Lucknow, Kanpur, Aligarh, Agra, Jhansi, and Chitrakoot.
This corridor aims to attract significant defence investments and strengthen India's strategic self-sufficiency.
Uttar Pradesh is the second state, following Tamil Nadu, to host such a corridor, further solidifying its position in national defence production.
