Nagpur, Jan 21 (NationPress) Indian wrist-spinner Varun Chakaravarthy emphasized that his primary goal is to achieve excellence and aid the team's triumph, as they enter the final stages of preparation for the Men’s T20 World Cup through their series opener against New Zealand at the New VCA Stadium in Nagpur on Wednesday.
“It’s a gratifying feeling when external validation aligns with our efforts, but our true pursuit is excellence and victories for our nation. That’s our focus, and we are well-prepared for the challenges ahead,” Chakaravarthy stated in a pre-match discussion with the broadcasters.
As the top-ranked men’s T20I bowler, Chakaravarthy faced difficulties during the 2021 T20 World Cup. However, since 2024, his comeback has solidified his role within the team.
“I realized I needed to adjust my routine and refine my skills. I was previously more of a side-spin bowler, but now I focus on over-spin, which requires me to dedicate more time to the gym and training. Modifying my routines has proven beneficial,” he noted.
When asked about the challenge of batters aiming to attack him, Chakaravarthy responded, “That typically plays to my advantage. I encourage them to take me on, as it opens up opportunities for them to err. I welcome that.”
He concluded by discussing his practice approach before a game. “I strive to mimic match conditions as closely as possible. If I bowl a no-ball in practice, I treat the next delivery as a free hit. My aim is to keep it as realistic as possible, aligning with match situations,” he explained.
