New Chandigarh, Dec 11 (NationPress) An unchanged Indian cricket team has won the toss and opted to bowl first against South Africa in the second T20I at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium on Thursday. This stadium is hosting its inaugural men’s international match, becoming the 55th venue in India to achieve this milestone. Currently, India leads the five-match series 1-0, and a victory today would secure a 2-0 lead.
“This ground has always been exceptional. Our previous matches here during franchise cricket were memorable, and witnessing a women's game recently only adds to its charm. It’s exciting to see the first men’s international game taking place here,” expressed India captain Suryakumar Yadav.
He emphasized the importance of the players understanding their roles and adapting to the match situation. “They batted excellently, recognizing the context. A score of 175 on this pitch was slightly above par. Our bowling performance was commendable,” Yadav noted.
He also praised all-rounder Hardik Pandya for his match-winning contributions in the first T20I held in Cuttack. “The balance he brings to the team is invaluable. His calm demeanor in pressure situations, both while batting and bowling, is crucial,” added Suryakumar.
South Africa's captain, Aiden Markram, announced the inclusion of Reeza Hendricks, Ottniel Baartman, and George Linde in place of Tristan Stubbs, Keshav Maharaj, and Anrich Nortje in the playing eleven.
“We would have preferred to bat. The wicket looks promising. Despite the limited international matches here, we aim to post a competitive score and apply pressure on India. We must accept that some games don't go as planned and strive to improve today,” Markram commented.
