During the official inauguration of the 7th Manipur Women’s International Polo Tournament 2026 at Mapal Kangjeibung, the Imphal Polo Ground, the Governor ceremoniously raised the flag of the All Manipur Polo Association (AMPA). He underscored the necessity of promoting polo in tandem with the welfare of the Manipuri Pony, safeguarding grazing lands, and preserving historic polo venues.
In his remarks on the significance of the Women’s International Polo Tournament, the Governor pointed out that this event signifies a robust commitment to women's empowerment through sports and conveys a strong message of confidence, leadership, and excellence.
Regarded as one of the most ancient polo grounds globally, the Imphal Polo Ground - Mapal Kangjeibung - hosted a significant event.
The opening ceremony was graced by notable figures including First Lady Jyoti Bhalla, Additional Chief Secretary Vivek Kumar Dewangan, Major General Ravroop Singh, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South), and Konsam Saratchandra Singh, President of the All Manipur Polo Association.
Participating teams include those from South Africa, Zambia, India Team A (Indian Polo Association), and India Team B (Manipur), competing over six days.
As a notable part of the traditional 10-day Manipur Sangai Festival 2025, which commenced on November 21, the seven-day 15th Manipur International Polo Tournament was previously held at the same venue from November 22.
An official from the Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association, which is responsible for organizing the tournament, mentioned that both international and national teams, including players from the US, Colombia, India A (Indian Polo Association), India B (Manipur), and India C (Chhattisgarh), took part in the event.
After a two-year hiatus due to ethnic unrest in the state, the 15th Manipur International Polo Tournament was conducted with renewed spirit and vigor under the leadership of the Governor.
