Margao (Goa), Feb 6 (NationPress) FC Goa midfielder Brison Fernandes has been honored as the Indian Super League (ISL) Emerging Player of the Month for January 2025. The winger earned this recognition following an impressive performance last month, where he contributed to the Gaurs achieving three victories and two draws.

The 23-year-old participated in all five matches for FC Goa in January, netting three goals and providing an assist, helping Manolo Marquez’s squad remain unbeaten throughout the month.

He scored twice in FC Goa’s dominant 4-2 win over Odisha FC, marking his second consecutive brace in the league, making him the first Indian player in ISL history to achieve this feat. Following that, he assisted Mohammad Yasir’s goal in a 1-1 draw against NorthEast United FC before netting the decisive goal against East Bengal FC, thus securing a league double against them.

Fernandes has demonstrated considerable growth under Marquez this season. Besides his goal contributions, he has been a vital part of the team's attacking strategy. In January, he recorded nine shots on goal, four of which were on target, and made 27 touches inside the opponent's penalty area.

His performances positioned him in the top spot ahead of Kerala Blasters FC’s Korou Singh and Jamshedpur FC’s Mohammed Sanan, who were ranked second and third, respectively. Among 15 voting experts, seven selected Fernandes as their top choice, while two each ranked him second and third.

Fernandes is the first player from FC Goa to win this award this season.
