Key Takeaways
Kabul, April 12 (NationPress) Officials from the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) conducted an extensive meeting with Richard Pybus, the newly appointed head coach of Afghanistan, on Sunday. Pybus arrived in Kabul just one day prior to assume his responsibilities for a month-long skill development camp aimed at gearing up for the series against India scheduled for June.
Pybus succeeded Jonathan Trott after his appointment in February.
The meeting was led by ACB's CEO, Naseeb Khan, and included heads from various key technical departments such as Domestic Cricket, International Cricket, the Selection Committee, and the High-Performance Center. Also present were both team captains, Hashmatullah Shahidi and Ibrahim Zadran, making it a significant introductory session.
The initial part of the discussion was centered on establishing the strategic goals and the long-term vision for the Afghanistan Cricket Board. Following this, Pybus engaged in detailed technical dialogues with departmental heads, gathering their valuable insights regarding the management and execution of the upcoming national team preparatory camp in Kabul,” stated ACB via X.
Afghanistan's tour to India will commence with a single Test match at the PCA New International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh, which will mark the venue's first-ever red-ball international match.
This encounter will be the second Test match between the two nations, following their inaugural clash in 2018 in Bengaluru, which was Afghanistan's debut in the longest format. Additionally, a three-match ODI series is set to take place in Dharamsala, Lucknow, and Chennai on June 14, 17, and 20.
Reports indicate ongoing discussions between the ACB and BCCI regarding a potential three-match T20I series to be hosted by Afghanistan in the UAE in 2026.
