IPL 2026: ACSU Issues Notice to RR Manager Romi Bhinder
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 13 (NationPress) The Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has delivered a show-cause notice to Rajasthan Royals team manager Romi Bhinder regarding the use of a mobile device during the match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He is required to respond within 48 hours.
“Yes, following an investigation by the ACSU, a show-cause notice has been issued to Bhinder. He must provide an explanation within 48 hours regarding his presence with a mobile phone in that area,” stated sources from the BCCI to IANS on Monday.
The incident occurred during the second innings of the match between RR and RCB at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati. Television footage captured Bhinder using a mobile phone while positioned near the refrigerator in the team dugout. The clip quickly gained traction on social media, notably showing young opening talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi looking at the phone's screen.
Per the Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA) guidelines available on the IPL's official website, “The Team Manager is permitted to use a phone in the dressing room, but NOT in the dugout.”
Bhinder, who also acts as Sooryavanshi’s local guardian during the IPL, had recently been hospitalized for nearly a month in Nagpur due to a lung collapse prior to the IPL.
Since the IPL's inception in 2008, he has been a vital part of the RR team, even serving with the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants when the Jaipur-based franchise was suspended from the tournament.
Other franchises are closely monitoring the ACSU's investigation into Bhinder. “According to regulations, mobile phone usage is prohibited in that area, regardless of his explanation. This significant breach of rules is quite clear-cut, and it will be intriguing to see how the BCCI decides to penalize him,” remarked an IPL insider.
