Jaipur, Oct 10 (NationPress) The Rajasthan Leader of the Opposition, Tika Ram Jully, stated on Thursday that the detained members of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) were arrested under the influence of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), emphasizing that the right to peaceful protest is a fundamental right guaranteed to all individuals.
“Vinod Jakhar and his associates have been taken into custody on baseless allegations. It is evident they were arrested at the prompting of the RSS and the current administration. This constitutes a misuse of authority,” the Rajasthan LoP remarked after visiting the Central Jail in Jaipur to meet with NSUI State President Vinod Jakhar and multiple NSUI activists who were recently detained.
The detentions occurred following protests organized by the NSUI against a recent RSS event held at a university campus.
The police justified the arrests of Vinod Jakhar and other student leaders by citing claims of public order disruption.
“These actions are politically motivated. The rights to democracy, freedom of expression, and peaceful protest are essential elements of any democratic society,” the Rajasthan LoP expressed to reporters outside the jail.
Accompanied by MLAs Amit Chachan and Manish Yadav, Jully noted that in a democratic setup, every individual has the right to voice their opinions and express dissent.
“What message is the government conveying by imprisoning student leaders for voicing their concerns?” he queried.
Labeling the current administration as a “sarkar of slips,” alluding to alleged administrative failures, Jully asserted that the government aims to suppress dissent by targeting young leaders.
“They may attempt to silence us, but we will not be quiet,” he declared.
This visit has ignited political discussions, with the Opposition accusing the government of undermining student activism and democratic dialogue within the state.
The Congress has called for the immediate release of the detained NSUI members and the dismissal of what they describe as “fabricated accusations.”
The situation has also garnered criticism from various student organizations and civil society groups, who perceive the arrests as a threatening precedent in limiting student rights on university grounds.
