New Delhi, Oct 21 (NationPress) The All-India Football Federation (AIFF) has declared a reward of USD 25,000 (approximately INR 21.99 lakh) for the India U17 women’s national team on Tuesday, celebrating their remarkable feat of qualifying for the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup for the first time ever.
The Young Tigresses achieved a flawless qualification run in Bishkek, triumphing over both host nation Kyrgyz Republic and Uzbekistan with identical scores of 2-1, securing the top position in Group G with six points.
This qualification signifies a tremendous milestone for women's football in India. The last time India participated in the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup was back in 2005, which did not involve qualification rounds.
The 2025 qualification thus marks the inaugural occasion where the team has earned its place through competitive matches. Their commendable performances in Bishkek have not only instilled pride in the nation but have also affirmed the federation’s strategic commitment to youth development.
“The All India Football Federation (AIFF) is delighted to announce a reward of USD 25,000 for the India U17 women's national team following their exceptional performance that secured their qualification for the AFC U17 Women's Asian Cup for the first time,” stated AIFF in a release.
The AIFF attributed the team’s success to meticulous planning and the exposure afforded by domestic and international opportunities. The U17 squad, which played as the Indian Arrows Women Juniors last season, gained invaluable experience by competing in the Indian Women’s League 2 against senior teams. This experience, according to the federation, significantly contributed to the players’ composure and tactical acumen during the qualifiers.
In partnership with the Sports Authority of India (SAI), the AIFF has also launched various initiatives aimed at fostering a robust grassroots and youth ecosystem. One of the most impactful has been the ASMITA Women’s Football Leagues, which successfully organized 155 leagues across India from 2023 to 2025 at the U13, U15, and U17 categories.
The 2023–24 season witnessed participation from 6,305 players, a figure that surged to 8,658 in 2024–25. The 2025–26 edition commenced last month with the U13 ASMITA Leagues, engaging around 8,000 players from 400 teams across 26 states.
