New Delhi, Feb 14 (NationPress) Under the guidance of Swedish coach Joakim Alexandersson, the India U17 women's team has successfully completed their inaugural training camp of 2025 at The Sports School in Kanakapura, situated near Bengaluru. This month-long camp saw participation from 32 players as they prepare for the SAFF U17 Women's Championship and the AFC U17 Women's Asian Cup Qualifiers, both set to occur in September and October 2025.

“The players have demonstrated a strong desire to improve. Many of them have previously played together, forming a cohesive and well-acquainted group,” he remarked.

“There is significant potential for enhancing their organized football skills, and the young athletes exhibit a commendable eagerness to learn. The players’ individual talents are also quite promising,” Alexandersson stated, as reported by the All-India Football Federation (AIFF).

The trial for the camp commenced on January 10, 2025, involving a total of 46 players. After a 10-day evaluation period, 32 players were selected for the camp's continuation, which concluded on February 13.

AIFF Deputy Secretary General and National Team overseer, M. Satyanarayan, mentioned, “Following this month-long camp, the girls will have a break for their examinations and will regroup for another training session at the same Kanakapura location.

The player selection process will persist as scouting continues across the over 60 ASMITA U17 Football Leagues currently active nationwide.

“The coach of the Indian Men’s Team, Manolo Márquez, has also contributed his insights, and we are planning to organize camps for the under-23 players soon. Many of them (over 150 in ISL and I-League) are lacking sufficient game time with their respective clubs,” he added.

These camps are intended to prepare for the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qualifiers (set for September 2025) as well as the Asian Games and the Olympics.
