The two-time defending champion, Alcaraz, has only dropped two sets throughout his remarkable 14-match winning streak. He successfully saved three out of four break points and converted four of his eight chances, as per ATP Stats.

Shapovalov entered the tournament boasting an impressive 10-4 record for the season, including his first ATP 500 title in Dallas last February. However, Alcaraz dominated the match, finishing off the Canadian in just 83 minutes, allowing only six games.

Alcaraz started the match with extraordinary momentum, quickly taking a 5-0 lead. While Shapovalov managed to regain some composure, the recent Dallas Open champion never posed a significant challenge to Alcaraz, who completed the match in one hour and 24 minutes, as reported by ATP.

"I was aware that he had a strong start to the season, showcasing excellent tennis with the title in Dallas and performing well in Acapulco, so I knew I had to commence the match with great strength and focus on my game," Alcaraz stated during his on-court interview.

"I aimed to play quality tennis and establish a good rhythm right from the start. I anticipated a tough and exciting battle, and I'm thrilled with how I began the match," he added.

The second-seeded Spaniard, in pursuit of his sixth ATP Masters 1000 title, is set to face 14th seed Grigor Dimitrov in his next match.
