Kolkata, May 3 (NationPress) Mavericks, featuring three international players, have advanced to the semifinals of the team competition alongside defending champions Formidables, Rampage, and Team Monica Jajoo at the 8th All India Shree Cement Bridge Championship, held at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre this Saturday.
The Mavericks team consists of Herald Eide from Norway, Oren Toledano, and Amir Zamir from Israel, alongside Subodh Maskara, Aniruddha Bhattacharjee, and Indian international Kezad Anklesaria, who delivered an impressive performance on the penultimate day of the tournament.
Throughout the three-round quarterfinals conducted on Friday evening and Saturday morning, Mavericks showcased a remarkable display against Team Arun Jain, winning all rounds decisively with a total score of 104–43 International Match Points (IMPs): 49-27, 30-12, and 25-4.
In other quarterfinals, the favored Formidables demonstrated their strength in the initial two rounds against strong challengers Dhampur Sugar Mills, captained by veteran former India captain Ashok Kumar Goel, achieving victories of 26-5 and 33-20.
Although Dhampur fought back fiercely in the final round, securing a 20–3 win, it was insufficient, leading to their overall loss with a score of 45-68 IMPs.
