Kolkata, Dec 3 (NationPress) Top contenders Team Hemant Jalan, along with Easy Bridge, S D Associates, and COGITO, have secured their spots in the semifinals of the Seniors Team Event (aged above 60) at the 67th Ashok Ruia Memorial Winter National Bridge Championship taking place at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in New Town, Kolkata, on Wednesday.
During the quarterfinals, Team Hemant Jalan, featuring a roster of international players, met expectations by defeating another formidable team, Shree Cement, with a score of 83-76 International Match Points (IMPs). Meanwhile, Easy Bridge showcased exceptional skill by besting Team Dr. SSM decisively, achieving 114 IMPs against their opponent's 40.
In two additional quarterfinal matches, COGITO narrowly overcame Team Juthika with a score of 63-49 IMPs, while S.D. Associates delivered a dominant performance against USBC, winning by a staggering 124.5-39 IMPs.
In the upcoming semifinals, Team Hemant Jalan will face S.D. Associates, and Easy Bridge will compete against COGITO.
Additionally, the mixed pairs event commenced on Wednesday, with 26 out of 55 pairs set to qualify for the final round, scheduled for Thursday, coinciding with the title match for the Seniors Team Event.
Earlier on Tuesday, Vidhya Patel and Kalpana Gurjar from Raibidpura village in Madhya Pradesh added another accolade to their achievements by winning the Amla Ruia Women Pairs title on the second day of the Winter National Bridge Championship.
The dynamic duo amassed 57.42 IMPs, edging out Rekha Mody and Vandana Tooslidas, who secured the runner-up position with 56 IMPs. Sangeeta Mohta and Barsha Khattry finished in third place with 26.89 IMPs.
This victory further cements 25-year-old Vidhya's recognition as the “Best Junior Girls Player in 2025“ award, which will be presented by the Bridge Federation of India later in the championship.
