Madrid, April 22 (NationPress) Following Real Madrid's elimination from the UEFA Champions League, the team's entire season now hinges on achieving domestic triumphs. With a four-point deficit in La Liga and a scheduled Copa Del Rey final, head coach Carlo Ancelotti asserts that their success relies heavily on defeating their long-standing rivals, FC Barcelona.
This Sunday (IST), Madrid faces Barcelona in the final of Spain's prestigious Cup competition before heading to Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys for a La Liga rematch against the Catalan side. Hansi Flick's team has had the upper hand this season, overpowering Real Madrid with scores of 4-0 and 5-2 in La Liga and the Super Copa de Espana final, respectively.
"The two titles we are vying for, excluding the Club World Cup, hinge on our ability to beat Barcelona. That remains our primary concern at the moment. To secure victories in both competitions, we must win these two matches," Ancelotti stated during a press conference ahead of their match against Getafe on Thursday (IST).
There is growing speculation about Ancelotti's future at the club, with reports indicating that Madrid is considering a future without the Italian. Coaches Xabi Alonso of Bayer Leverkusen and Jurgen Klopp, the former Liverpool head coach, are rumored to be potential successors. Additionally, Ancelotti is being considered for the Brazilian national team after the dismissal of Dorival Jr.
When questioned if winning La Liga and the Copa del Rey could extend his tenure, he responded, "In football, anything is feasible. I am not shocked by anything, so anything can transpire."
"I bear no grudges against anyone or anything. I cherish this role. I enjoyed my first stint and am relishing this second one. I hope it continues for as long as possible. When the time comes for it to end, I will be grateful and will take my hat off to this club, nothing more," Ancelotti concluded.
