Aqib Javed Appointed as Interim Red-Ball Coach for Pakistan Following Gillespie's Departure

Lahore, Dec 13 (NationPress) Jason Gillespie, who was named as the head coach of Pakistan's Test squad in April of this year, has stepped down from his position.
In the wake of Gillespie's resignation, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed Aqib Javed as the interim head coach for the red-ball format of the Test team.
During Gillespie's final outing as the head coach, the team managed to recover from a 1-0 deficit to clinch victory in a three-Test series against England at home in October.
Currently, Pakistan is engaged in a three-match T20I series against the Proteas, which will be succeeded by an equal number of ODIs. The two-Test series is set to commence thereafter at Centurion on Boxing Day.
Aqib’s initial task as red-ball head coach will be the two-match Test series against South Africa during the ongoing all-format tour.
The first Test is planned at the SuperSport Park in Centurion from December 26 to 30. The second Test will take place at Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town from January 3 to 7.
Currently, Pakistan is out of the race for a spot in next year's WTC Final, sitting at seventh place in the ICC World Test Championship points table, with four more Tests left in the ongoing cycle.
Meanwhile, South Africa, who are presently at the top of the points table, have positioned themselves as strong contenders for the final showdown after recently defeating Sri Lanka 2-0 at home.
