Melbourne, Dec 24 (NationPress) England has revealed their squad for the fourth Ashes Test against Australia, implementing two changes from the previous match in Adelaide. Jofra Archer will not participate for the rest of the series due to a side strain, and Ollie Pope is also absent from this match.

The left-handed all-rounder Jacob Bethell is set to join the lineup at No. 3, while fast bowler Gus Atkinson makes his return after missing the last match. The highly anticipated fourth Ashes Test is scheduled to commence on Boxing Day, December 26, at the renowned Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

According to a statement from the ECB, “England has made two alterations to the XI that played in the third Test in Adelaide. Fast bowler Jofra Archer is sidelined for the duration of the tour due to a left side strain, and Surrey batter Ollie Pope will not be participating.”

“Warwickshire’s Jacob Bethell is stepping into the lineup and will bat at number three, while Surrey seamer Gus Atkinson is back after missing the third Test,” the ECB stated.

Currently, England has lost the series, with Australia winning the first three matches and securing an unassailable 3-0 lead. The Ben Stokes-led team suffered a defeat in the opening match by eight wickets in Perth and faced a similar loss in the second Test at the Gabba, as Australia moved closer to securing the urn.

In the third Test at the Adelaide Oval, England showcased a competitive performance, pushing the game to the fifth day. Although they concluded Day 4 on a positive note and remained in a winning position, the Aussie bowlers, needing four wickets, quickly wrapped up the match on the final day.

Here is England’s XI for the MCG Test: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Jacob Bethell, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (c), Jamie Smith (wk), Will Jacks, Gus Atkinson, Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue.
