London, July 15 (NationPress) Arsenal Women have revealed the acquisition of 24-year-old German goalkeeper Anneke Borbe on a permanent basis. She joins the North London club after her contract with VfL Wolfsburg came to an end, where she made 15 appearances across various competitions.
Anneke’s professional journey began with Werder Bremen, where she debuted at just 16 years old in February 2017. Over her time at the club, she made 77 appearances and played a crucial role in their promotion to Germany’s top tier in the 2019/20 season before transferring to Wolfsburg in 2023.
“I’m truly honored to join this fantastic club. It’s incredible to have the chance to be part of Arsenal during such an exciting phase. I can’t wait to start working with my teammates and, of course, playing in front of our amazing fans at the Emirates Stadium,” Anneke expressed.
After initially playing with Wolfsburg’s development team, Anneke made her first-team debut in a 4-1 victory against Mainz in the German Cup in November 2024.
She established herself as the primary goalkeeper for Wolfsburg starting in February 2025, participating in all remaining 14 matches as the team finished second in the league and advanced to the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-finals.
Arsenal Women head coach Renee Slegers stated, “We’re thrilled to welcome Anneke to the club. Her composure and aerial skills have impressed us, and we believe she has immense potential for growth here. We eagerly anticipate working alongside Anneke in this new chapter of her career, and I am confident our fans will extend her a warm welcome.”
Director of Women’s Football Clare Wheatley remarked, “Anneke is a young goalkeeper with considerable potential, and we’re excited to add her to our roster. Her exceptional skills will enhance our goalkeeper department as we prepare for next season. We warmly welcome Anneke to Arsenal and wish her great success in North London.”
