London, Jan 17 (NationPress) Arsenal women have revealed the appointment of Renee Slegers as the permanent head coach of the women’s first team. The Dutch coach, who stepped into the role on an interim basis in October 2024, has now signed a contract that extends until the conclusion of the 2025/26 season.

During her interim period, she led the team to an impressive unbeaten streak, securing 10 victories and just one draw across all competitions, netting 31 goals while conceding only five.

“I’m thrilled to continue our journey together. It’s a tremendous privilege to represent this club as head coach, and I have immense faith in what we can achieve as a team,” Renee expressed in a statement about her new contract.

“In recent months, I’ve experienced a profound sense of shared ownership and accountability among our players and staff – this has been our greatest strength, and I am committed to fostering this atmosphere as we progress together.

“Feeling the closeness and enthusiasm of our supporters throughout this journey has been invaluable to me, and I want to extend my gratitude to all of you. We aim to create something magnificent that inspires and leads to trophy victories. Everyone has a crucial role in making that happen,” she added.

Renee’s contributions were acknowledged when she received the Women’s Super League Manager of the Month award in December. Moreover, her leadership saw the team achieve five consecutive wins in their UEFA Women’s Champions League group matches, allowing them to qualify for the quarter-finals as Group C winners.

Originally hailing from the Netherlands, Renee joined Arsenal as an assistant coach in the summer of 2023 after two successful years with Rosengard, where she clinched back-to-back Swedish league titles in 2021 and 2022.

Having represented Arsenal at the youth level between 2006 and 2007, her professional career also included stints at Willem II in the Netherlands and Djurgardens and Linkoping in Sweden. On the international stage, Renee earned 55 caps for the Dutch national team before her retirement in 2016.
