London, Feb 4 (NationPress) After the closure of the 2025 January transfer window, Arsenal's head coach Mikel Arteta expressed his disappointment as the team did not secure any new signings during this period.
The Gunners faced injury challenges, similar to many clubs in the league, but were particularly keen on acquiring a striker due to Gabriel Jesus sustaining yet another injury, yet they were unable to finalize any agreements.
"Our aim was defined; we always strive to explore possibilities to enhance our squad when a window opens. Injuries have affected us, and we did not achieve that goal.
"It is disappointing in that regard, but we recognize the importance of bringing in only specific types of players, and we must maintain discipline in that pursuit," Arteta remarked during a pre-match press conference.
Names like Benjamin Sesko, Ollie Watkins, and Mathys Tel were among those linked with the Gunners, but the Arsenal manager remained firm that a signing would only occur if they identified the right fit for the team.
When questioned about his strategy for the striker position for the remainder of the season, Arteta indicated that he would need to experiment with various players who could play in that role.
"We must remain adaptable in our attacking options; the players we have must stay healthy and actively contribute. Raheem Sterling has played in that role, and I believe Ethan Nwaneri can too, along with Gabriel Martinelli. We will assess everyone's condition and our opponents, but at some point, I anticipate we will have to try something different," Arteta stated.
Arteta is set to face Newcastle United in the second leg of the Carabao Cup final, having lost the first leg 0-2 at home, at Saint James Park. Scoring against Newcastle is a challenge, yet the Gunners are buoyed by a commanding 5-1 victory over rivals Manchester City on Sunday.
"Comparing the team's emotions post-defeat and today is starkly different as we come from some strong performances, particularly against Man City.
"This is a moment for us to go all out, and we are prepared to approach it in a manner that allows us to reach the final," he added.
