London, May 4 (NationPress) Mikel Arteta has urged his team to channel the disappointment from their 1-2 defeat against Bournemouth into a positive force ahead of their Champions League semifinal second leg in France next week.
The lead-up to Wednesday's UEFA Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain has not gone as expected for Arsenal, following yet another unsatisfactory outcome at home.
Goals in the second half from Huijsen and Evanilson overturned Declan Rice's initial goal, leading the Cherries to their first victory at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday night.
"We aimed to cultivate a different vibe, atmosphere, and energy for our trip to Paris. However, we ended up generating a lot of frustration, anger, and disappointment. Now is the time to exhibit our courage and resilience and channel everything we’re feeling into delivering an outstanding performance to win the game and secure our place in the final," Arteta stated on the Arsenal website.
“That fire in your belly must be present, and it's time to rise to the occasion in Paris and achieve a remarkable victory.”
Reflecting on the loss to Bournemouth, which is Arsenal's fourth defeat in the Premier League this season, Arteta commented, “We are disheartened by the outcome, especially after our strong start.”
“We scored first and had four or five significant opportunities to secure the match, but we failed to capitalize on them. Additionally, we poorly defended both goals, particularly against set-pieces. In the Premier League, any team can capitalize on such mistakes, especially a skilled team like Bournemouth, which did punish us."
This latest defeat leaves Arsenal with only a three-point lead over Manchester City, currently in third place.
If Newcastle United wins their match in hand at Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday, Arsenal’s cushion in second place may shrink to just two points.
