Dubai, Sep 15 (NationPress) Maheesh Theekshana has stepped in for Matheesha Pathirana as Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bowl first against Hong Kong in their 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup Group B match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Monday.
After a commanding victory over Bangladesh, Sri Lanka aims to secure a spot in the Super Four with another win. "The pitch looks decent. We prefer to chase. Really pleased with our last performance," said Sri Lanka's captain Charith Asalanka.
"It was almost a flawless game for us against Bangladesh. We just want to maintain this momentum. Underestimating any team, especially in T20s, is not an option. We must execute the basics effectively," he added.
Conversely, although Hong Kong has faced consecutive defeats, they demonstrated improvement against Bangladesh following a tough loss to Afghanistan. With Super Four qualification unattainable, they are eager to conclude their campaign on a high note.
Captain Yasir Murtaza announced that Kalhan Challu is out, with Shahid Wasif joining the lineup. "Honestly, we performed well against Bangladesh. While we focus on winning, a solid work ethic is crucial. Our coach emphasizes that if we prioritize our work ethic, the results will follow. We have areas to improve," he mentioned.
The pitch for today’s match features a fresh surface with a blend of green and dry patches, posing a possible challenge for batters. Broadcaster Russel Arnold noted that the grass cover could lead to tennis-ball bounce and an uneven playing surface.
He also mentioned that the pitch is expected to remain consistent throughout the 40 overs, with conditions likely to favor batting as the evening progresses.
