Australia to Welcome Bangladesh for Historic Test Series in August
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Sydney, Feb 25 (NationPress) Australia will welcome Bangladesh for a Test series from August 13 to 22, marking the first such encounter since 2003, as announced by Cricket Australia on Wednesday.
The first Test will kick off on August 13 at Marrara Stadium in Darwin, which has not hosted a Test match since Australia faced Sri Lanka in 2004.
Previously, Darwin held a match against Bangladesh in 2003 and another against Sri Lanka in 2004, but no international games were played there until South Africa's two T20Is last August.
The two-Test series will conclude at Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay, which will also host its inaugural Test, making it the 12th venue for Test cricket in Australia.
Bangladesh's last long-form encounter with Australia was in 2017, when they achieved their first Test victory over the Australians in Dhaka.
This series is part of the World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle, where Australia currently leads with seven wins from eight matches.
“We’re thrilled to bring Test cricket to northern Australia and anticipate a fantastic series against Bangladesh.
“Given the increasingly busy international calendar, we are fortunate to have world-class facilities available in August, allowing us another opportunity for Test cricket outside of summer,” remarked Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg.
“Marrara Stadium and Great Barrier Reef Arena have proven to be excellent venues for international cricket in recent years,” he added.
Following the Bangladesh series, Australia will head to South Africa for a three-match Test series, and later host New Zealand for a four-match Test series towards the end of the year.
Series schedule:
First Test: August 13-17, Marrara Stadium, Darwin
