BCB Director Considers Resignation Amid Disagreements with Board President

Dhaka, Jan 5 (NationPress) Director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Najmul Abedin, has indicated that he may step down from his position unless meaningful changes occur.

In a conversation with a local television network, Najmul openly criticized BCB president Faruque Ahmed, suggesting a serious divide between them. Both Najmul, a well-respected local coach, and Faruque were appointed to the board following the National Sports Council's (NSC) decision after the exit of former president Nazmul Hasan.

Najmul reiterated his dissatisfaction, expressing that he had anticipated a different trajectory during his time on the board.

"What I wanted to convey is that I haven't observed many aspects aligning with my expectations. It's not solely about my personal desires. But overall, the direction it should take, in my view, isn’t currently being followed, and things could have improved. If this situation persists, I might reconsider my position (at BCB)," Najmul stated in an interview with Cricbuzz.

"Having been involved in cricket for approximately 40 to 45 years, I don’t need to start from scratch to identify what changes are necessary. As a coach or a board director, I am fully aware of the modifications I wish to see in specific areas. It’s not that everything I want is correct and all my requests should be catered to. However, it has been disappointing to not witness those changes, and if the status quo remains, I will inevitably lose interest," he remarked.

Within the cricket community, the strained relationship between Najmul and Faruque is widely recognized, and Najmul stressed that it should not have escalated to this point.

"Precisely, that’s what shouldn't have occurred because I’m the one who suggested to Faruque Ahmed that we proceed together. I introduced him to stakeholders and said he was the right person for the role, so such differences should not have arisen. If anyone has a different opinion, that’s one thing, but it shouldn’t have developed considering I personally recommended him (for the position). From my perspective, there shouldn’t be any discord with Faruque," he explained.

In contrast, BCB president Faruque Ahmed refuted claims of a rift, attributing the perceived discord to misunderstandings and ineffective communication. "There’s no conflict. Within the organization, while there may be some issues, it’s nothing serious," Faruque informed reporters.

"As new members of the board, there are two directors - myself as board president and Najmul Abedin as director. From my playing days, I have always believed that discussions can resolve everything. If there’s any discontent within the team, it’s more effective to converse with me and find solutions. We are both new directors striving to achieve maximum results. This could lead to a communication gap as I had to make numerous urgent decisions without being able to consult everyone. In those instances, communication might falter.

"I spoke with him (Najmul Abedin) today. I hope it will be resolved soon," he added. "Not everyone behaves the same way. I am straightforward about my dislikes or inquiries. Some individuals are more reserved and keep their thoughts to themselves. This can exacerbate misunderstandings. I've made efforts to address this. If anyone has concerns, they can approach me, and we can work through it together," he concluded.
