BCB President Faruque Ahmed Optimistic About Shakib's Future with Bangladesh Team

New Delhi, Dec 1 (NationPress) Faruque Ahmed, the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), conveyed his belief that Shakib al Hasan still has the potential to play for the senior men’s team if he obtains the necessary legal clearance.

Shakib, who stepped down from Tests and T20Is earlier this year, had aspirations to conclude his Test career on home ground. However, due to security issues, he was unable to realize this goal and also missed the ODI series against Afghanistan.

Consequently, Shakib, who has been elected as an MP from the ousted Awami League government, has not been included in Bangladesh’s ODI squad for the upcoming West Indies tour. "Regarding Shakib Al Hasan, I cannot offer a conclusive response. I desire for him to play, but his absence is not a matter concerning the cricket board.

"The obstacles to his participation are related to law enforcement and legal proceedings. It’s a complex situation for me to discuss. Should these issues be resolved, I firmly believe that Shakib is capable of contributing to the national team," Ahmed stated, as reported by Cricbuzz.

He also mentioned considerations for introducing a women’s version of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), while emphasizing the importance of ensuring the success of the forthcoming men’s tournament.

"The concept of a Women's BPL is impressive. I think we have prioritized women's cricket appropriately and will strive to enhance facilities for women players. We need to assess our ability to host the Women's BPL. Our commitment will be present, and we will see how it unfolds.

"At the same time, we plan to further strengthen the Men's BPL. Although this is the inaugural BPL during my time on the board, it also marks the conclusion of this cycle. If I continue into the next term, or whoever succeeds me, I hope that the major franchises will remain for the long haul. Having two or three new franchises annually is not ideal.

"Our primary challenge was to facilitate the BPL with seven teams despite numerous hurdles, including economic difficulties and team withdrawals. Now, it’s time for enhanced scrutiny and necessary adjustments," he concluded.
