London, Nov 8 (NationPress) England's head coach Thomas Tuchel emphasized the importance of embracing Jude Bellingham’s fierce competitiveness and remarkable intensity on the field. This comes after the Real Madrid sensation was recalled for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Serbia at home and Albania away.
Bellingham's previous absence during last month's stunning 5-0 win over Latvia, which confirmed England's place in next year’s World Cup in North America, had led to speculation regarding tensions between him and the manager.
During a media briefing on Friday, Tuchel rejected any notions of conflict and reaffirmed his admiration for the 22-year-old midfielder. Previously, Tuchel had apologized in June for stating that Bellingham's on-field demeanor was “repulsive,” a comment he clarified is now forgotten.
“There is no issue with him, nor with his character,” Tuchel stated. “Jude simply possesses an edge, and that’s a very positive attribute because you need it to achieve the heights he has reached.”
“We all need to support him, encourage him, and foster an environment where he can thrive with this edge against opponents and towards our collective goals as a team.”
“The message is clear: keep this momentum going and accelerate our progress, as we are building something special and are thrilled to have you back. The call is to actively contribute to this journey.”
Phil Foden has also been brought back into the England squad, with Tuchel revealing plans to place the Manchester City player in a more central attacking position, just behind captain Harry Kane, rather than on the flanks, which has been his usual role.
Foden highlighted his form earlier this week, netting twice in Manchester City’s 4-1 Champions League triumph over Borussia Dortmund while operating in a similar central role behind striker Erling Haaland—a performance that seems to have impacted Tuchel’s tactical approach.
“(Foden) will play in a 9-10ish role, centrally,” the manager explained. “This has been my vision for him for a long time, as I believe it fits him best.”
“His second goal against Dortmund is a signature Phil Foden goal, showcasing his ability to support Harry (Kane) effectively, playing in that 9 and a half-ish role.”
