Bengaluru, Feb 17 (NationPress) The 2025 Bengaluru Open, often regarded as India's leading international tennis tournament, is set to include nine competitors ranked in the top 200, featuring Vit Kopriva and Tristan Schoolkate, starting February 24.

This premier tennis event in India, marking a decade since its first edition in 2015, is back with an enhanced ATP Challenger 125 status, emphasizing its significance on both the Indian tennis scene and the worldwide challenger circuit.

Headlined by World No. 128 Kopriva from the Czech Republic, the tournament comprises nine top-200 players competing for $200,000 in prize money and 125 ATP ranking points for the singles champion. The event is poised to deliver exhilarating matches, further cementing its status as a crucial fixture in the tennis world.

Scheduled to take place at the KSLTA Courts in Cubbon Park from February 24 to March 2, the tournament, now in its ninth year, will feature a 32-player singles draw, including 20 direct entries, six qualifiers, two special exemptions, one Next Gen Accelerator, and three wild cards. With a cutoff at World No. 237, the competition promises exceptional tennis throughout the week.

Kopriva arrives in Bengaluru in excellent form after reaching the final at the Bangkok Open earlier this season. He will be accompanied by World No. 135 Tristan Schoolkate from Australia, along with Denmark’s Elmer Moller (152), France’s Ugo Blanchet (159), and Canada’s Alexis Galarneau (177), all eager to make a significant impact.

The lineup also includes former top-20 player Bernard Tomic, who achieved a career-high rank of 17 in 2016. Fans can anticipate thrilling tennis as the Australian seeks to extend his remarkable career.

Tournament Director Sunil Yajman shared enthusiasm regarding the depth of this year’s field: “We are thrilled to have such a prestigious lineup for this tournament. The high cutoff ensures that Indian fans will witness top-tier players in action throughout the week. Indian players have previously gained from this local event, and we hope they will seize the opportunity to compete in their homeland.”

“Celebrating a decade since the inaugural edition in 2015 makes this tournament exceptionally meaningful this year. With a remarkable field, a strong cutoff, and an upgraded ATP Challenger 125 status, everything has aligned perfectly for a top-level competition,” he continued.

Maheshwar Rao IAS, Hon. Secretary, KSLTA and Organising Secretary of the Bengaluru Open, remarked: “The Bengaluru Open has evolved into a premier stop on the ATP Challenger Tour, and reaching this milestone showcases its success. This tournament continues to bring world-class tennis to India and offers a vital platform for our players to compete at an elite level. With an upgraded Challenger 125 status and a robust field, we are eager to present another thrilling edition that enhances Karnataka’s presence in the global tennis arena.”

As an ATP Challenger 125 event, the singles champion will earn 125 points, while the runner-up and semi-finalists will receive 64 and 35, respectively.

In 2024, Italy’s Stefano Napolitano claimed the title after a hard-fought battle against India’s Sumit Nagal. The singles event has also seen two Indian champions in the past: Nagal (2017) and Prajnesh Gunneswaran (2018). The tournament was not held in 2016, 2019, and 2021.
