The team consists of 10 male and 9 female boxers, selected from the current elite national camp at the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports in Patiala, as the season approaches pivotal tournaments.
The BFI explained that the selection process was based on criteria that favored silver medallists from the 2025 Elite Men’s and Women’s National Championships. Under the auspices of Asian Boxing, the Thailand Open will host top national teams from across Asia, including formidable contenders like China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Japan, Korea, and the host nation Thailand.
During the announcement, BFI president-chairman of the Interim Committee, Ajay Singh, stated, 'As the team prepares to head to the Thailand Open, we are entering a thrilling phase for Indian boxing. This signifies the start of a busy international schedule, featuring the World Cup in Kazakhstan, the World Championship in Liverpool, the World Cup Finals in New Delhi, and several significant tournaments, including the Asian Championship, later this year.'
'We have emphasized performance and transparency in our selection process—every boxer has secured their spot through dedication and consistency. The national camp is already in progress, and with the level of talent and structure we have established, I am confident we are well-equipped to make a substantial global impression in the coming months.'
The Patiala camp initially gathered 60 male and 60 female boxers, chosen from standout performers at the 2025 Nationals and gold and silver medallists from the 2024 REC Combined National Talent Hunt held in Rohtak and the Chief of Army Staff Cup in Pune.
After a series of internal evaluations, the pool was narrowed down to 40 in each category. This selected core group will continue their training throughout June, with additional athletes from an upcoming Elite Women’s Competition set to join in July.
