BGT 2024-25: Carey Expresses Optimism for Improved Cricket in Adelaide

Adelaide, Dec 3 (NationPress) The Australian wicketkeeper-batter has reassured fans that there is no sense of panic within the team, promising to recover vigorously with a better style of cricket in Adelaide after suffering a heavy 295-run defeat to India in the opening match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth.

Carey expressed confidence in Australia’s batting lineup, stating that each player is eager to achieve significant scores in the upcoming pink-ball Test at Adelaide Oval.

"If you ask the batters, we all aim to perform at a higher level; we step onto the field with the intention of scoring a hundred, and if that doesn’t happen, it can lead to disappointment," Carey mentioned during a press conference on Tuesday.

"However, we are a very cohesive team. Everyone gets a chance to bat, and we are all eager to continue posting substantial runs on the scoreboard; I have faith in my teammates to do just that," he added.

The significant loss in Perth drew considerable attention from the media and former players, yet Carey insisted that the atmosphere in the dressing room remained calm.

"The external reaction to a single Test defeat seems rather intense. Internally, we maintain our composure. We didn’t perform as we had hoped. We understand that over the course of four or five Test matches, if we consistently show up and play our style of cricket, success will follow. We have experienced that success before, and we know our approach works," he noted.

"We are composed internally and are looking forward to returning to the field to exhibit a superior style of cricket, and we will have that opportunity this Friday," Carey remarked.

The wicketkeeper also emphasized that Australia’s world-class batters will strategize effectively against pacer Jasprit Bumrah in the day-night Test.

"He is undoubtedly an exceptional bowler who has excelled for several years. Our batters are also of world-class caliber and are always adept at finding solutions," Carey stated.

"We have assessed his bowling. Our aim is to counter him early in the innings to force him to bowl with an older ball later on. We witnessed Travis countering him effectively. I trust our batters to find ways to tackle not only Bumrah but also the other debutants who bowled well," he added.

Carey refrained from highlighting the previous pink-ball Test against India at Adelaide Oval, where India recorded their lowest-ever Test total of 36.

"There have been remarkable moments in cricket history, but we don’t anticipate replicating that scenario. We have a structured process and a plan that we strive to execute, and we will accept whatever outcome arises. I was not present during that Test match."
