5th Test: Cummins Expresses Gratitude for Historic Achievement

Sydney, Jan 5 (NationPress) Australia’s skipper Pat Cummins had never experienced a victory in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy prior to the 2024/25 season, but this year allowed him and the home team to secure the series victory for the first time in ten years. After triumphing over India by six wickets in Sydney, Cummins reflected on their 3-1 series success, stating that the team felt immensely privileged to clinch the series on their own turf.

“It’s surreal. It’s the one trophy that a few of us didn’t possess. The team has been focused on it and it has certainly met our expectations. We were clear with our strategies, wanting to minimize runs. We anticipated a challenging wicket. The batters had a solid approach, and ultimately it paid off,” Cummins remarked.

“I’m incredibly proud. We have spent a significant amount of time together as a unit. Perth wasn’t as grim as it appears. We’ve enjoyed ourselves throughout this journey, and having some success along the way is always rewarding. We feel so privileged to have accomplished what we have. This group is truly special. I’m really proud of what we’ve accomplished and hope we’re making the most of our time together,” Cummins shared during the post-match presentation.

He mentioned that participating in this series has become one of his favorite experiences in Test cricket for Australia, especially with a remarkable attendance of 837,879 fans across all five matches. “This will be remembered as one of my favorite series. Thanks to Rohit and Jasprit. The fans have truly enriched this series,” he noted.

“This series showcases why Test cricket is the premier format. Every venue was fantastic - the MCG was exceptional, and we had three sellout matches in Sydney. The pink Test is such a significant date on the calendar, something I've cherished since childhood. We are honoring a remarkable cause,” he added.

Cummins also praised debutants Nathan McSweeney, Sam Konstas, and Beau Webster, along with the mainstay batters Travis Head and Steve Smith. “Three debutants made their mark this series, all contributing significantly. Beau was outstanding today,” he said.

“I’m quite satisfied with my performance throughout the series. In critical moments, our key players truly stepped up, which is essential to overcoming a side like India,” Cummins concluded.

Scott Boland, who earned the Player of the Match title for his impressive overall haul of 10-76, including a six-wicket haul in the second innings, expressed joy at being part of the team that triumphed over India.

“That feels fantastic. It has been a really enjoyable couple of months. I never expected to play a significant role in the series, but I was ready. I focused on my fitness and training, and here I am. Winning 3-1 against India hasn’t happened in a while. I’m just grateful to contribute whenever I can,” he remarked.
