Jaiswal Promises a Resilient Comeback Following Disappointing Result

New Delhi, Jan 6 (NationPress) India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal expressed his determination that the team will return with greater strength following their 1-3 loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in Sydney on Sunday. India concluded the final Test of the series with a six-wicket defeat, squashing their aspirations for a third successive appearance in the World Test Championship (WTC) final.

This series also marked India's first Test series defeat to Australia in ten years, the last being in 2015. India successfully held onto the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in the previous four series, including two in Australia.

However, this time the outcome was not favorable for India, as their batters faced challenges in scoring runs on Australian soil. Jasprit Bumrah stood out as a silver lining with his impressive performances throughout the tour, ending as the leading wicket-taker with 32 wickets and earning the title of Player of the Series.

Meanwhile, Jaiswal emerged as India's top run-scorer, amassing 391 runs, which included one century and two half-centuries, averaging 43.44. Despite his remarkable performance, Jaiswal expressed disappointment in finishing on the losing side and emphasized the importance of continuing to work diligently. "Learnt a lot in Australia… Unfortunately, the result wasn’t what we had hoped for but we’ll be back stronger. Your support means everything," Jaiswal shared in a social media update.

Australia's opener Usman Khawaja, who struggled during the series, praised his Indian counterpart, stating, "Love your work brother."

Former England captain Michael Vaughan also commented on Jaiswal's post, acknowledging, "You are a superstar...love watching you play."

On Sunday, Jaiswal and Nitish Kumar Reddy received significant support from cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar following their commendable performance in Australia.

Gavaskar noted, "If we talk about the macro picture, as we saw with Nitish Kumar Reddy and Yashasvi Jaiswal—they are hungry. They are eager to make a name for India and for themselves. Such players are essential. You need players who will guard their wicket as if it were their life. You need players like that. They can play with flair, but the commitment I want to see is crucial," Gavaskar mentioned on Star Sports.
