5th Test: India Faces Setback as Bumrah Leaves Ground for Medical Evaluation

Sydney, Jan 4 (NationPress) India faces a significant setback on the second day of the ongoing fifth Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test as captain Jasprit Bumrah was observed departing the Sydney Cricket Ground for medical scans at a local hospital.
Visuals broadcasted by Fox Sports and Channel Seven depicted Bumrah exiting India’s dressing room and subsequently leaving the venue in a vehicle. He was seen in a team tracksuit, accompanied by the team doctor and integrity manager Anshuman Upadhyay.
Bumrah managed to bowl only one over with noticeably reduced pace before leaving the field after a brief conversation with Virat Kohli during the second session of day two. The specifics of Bumrah’s injury are still unclear, but he had experienced discomfort in the groin area during the pink-ball Test in Adelaide.
Throughout Australia’s innings, Bumrah recorded figures of 2-33 from 10 overs, having made a significant impact by dismissing Usman Khawaja on the last ball of day one and then catching Marnus Labuschagne behind early in day two's play. Bumrah stands as the leading wicket-taker of the series with 32 wickets.
Additionally, Bumrah has surpassed Bishen Singh Bedi's record of 31 wickets to become India’s highest wicket-taker in a Test series held in Australia. Currently, an official announcement regarding the nature of Bumrah’s injury is awaited from the Indian team. Meanwhile, Kohli has assumed the captaincy for India, with Rohit Sharma revealing he opted out of the Sydney Test due to a disappointing run of form.
