BGT 2024-25: McSweeney Reflects on Unique Test Debut Experience in Perth

Adelaide, Nov 28 (NationPress) Opener Nathan McSweeney stated that his Test debut against India in Perth was a unique experience unlike any he had faced in his playing career, especially regarding the caliber of bowling he had to contend with.

During his debut, McSweeney was dismissed lbw twice by Jasprit Bumrah, scoring just 10 and 0, as Australia suffered a defeat to India by 295 runs, falling behind 1-0 in the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.

'In Shield cricket, we regularly face bowlers and become accustomed to their styles. However, facing international players presents a different challenge. It’s a little tricky to pick up cues from their unique actions, but I’ll definitely learn from this experience. I am eagerly anticipating my next opportunity here in Adelaide,' McSweeney shared with 9News Adelaide.

As the captain of South Australia in domestic cricket, McSweeney also expressed pride in receiving his debut cap from former coach Darren Lehmann. He mentioned that the Australian team is keen to bounce back in the upcoming pink-ball Test in Adelaide, starting December 6.

This upcoming match will mark only McSweeney’s second pink-ball Test. 'It’s a reflection of sports, filled with ups and downs. My family was present for my cap presentation, but it was disappointing to not perform as we had hoped,' he remarked.

'Everyone is eager to get back to training and prepare thoroughly. As an opening batter, it’s crucial to score runs, so I must focus on my preparation this week.'

'I aim to go out there and contribute runs for my country, and if I achieve that, I’ll be satisfied. I am extremely excited about the Adelaide Test; everyone speaks highly of it, and I can’t wait to deliver a strong performance for our team.'
