Ahmedabad, May 25 (NationPress) Dewald Brevis continued to amaze fans with his remarkable batting and power-hitting, scoring a stunning 57 runs off just 23 balls, marking his second half-century of the season. His performance played a crucial role in leading the Chennai Super Kings to a decisive victory against the table-topping Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.
Later, the young South African batsman recognized the enduring comparisons drawn between him and one of the most celebrated South African batsmen in IPL history, AB De Villiers. However, he expressed his desire to establish his own identity in the game.
Brevis’ remarkable innings, which earned him the Player of the Match award, helped CSK achieve a formidable total of 230 runs, resulting in an impressive 83-run triumph over Gujarat Titans.
During the post-match presentation, Brevis shared that while being compared to the legendary RCB player is a privilege, he aims to carve out his own path as a cricketer.
“I am happy, I am enjoying the game and having fun out there. I need to be myself. I've always been the kid who enjoys every moment in the game. I kept reminding myself, 'it's cool, not warm (conditions)'. I am grateful for this innings. I need to continue playing, as everyone has advised. AB is someone I admire; he has contributed to my growth, but I wish to be my own player. It's truly an honour to be compared to AB de Villiers,” Brevis stated.
Signed as a replacement for Gurjapneet Singh towards the season's conclusion, Brevis has only participated in six games this year but has impressively accumulated 225 runs at a striking rate of 180.
While Brevis shone with the bat, it was Noor Ahmad who regained the Purple Cap after claiming three wickets during the match, bringing his season tally to 24 wickets and effectively dismantling GT’s middle and lower order.
The Afghan bowler commented on the nature of cricket being filled with peaks and valleys, expressing optimism that CSK will bounce back stronger next season after finishing at the bottom of the standings this edition.
“It was a fantastic way to conclude the tournament. Although the season was challenging, it feels great to finish on a high note. (Regarding his favorite wicket today) The third one was particularly satisfying. It was a bit quicker, and I enjoyed that. Everyone put in their best effort, we tried hard, and in cricket, ups and downs are part of the game. We hope to return stronger,” Noor added.
